Save Money And Energy

You know that feeling when you open your electric bill, and the number looks bigger than your rent? All the people in traditional site-built homes are nodding their heads, but not the owners of manufactured homes.

Energy Efficient

Little known fact – manufactured homes are often much more energy efficient than a traditional home. Because these homes are built to Department of Housing and Urban Development’s code, entire homes end up Energy Star certified. The energy efficiency comes from the addition of insulation both in the walls and under the home, energy-efficient windows, and on-demand water heaters, among other features.

How much money can you save? Researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy studied this question by building two three-bedroom, two-bath houses – one a traditional home and one a manufactured home. After studying the homes for a winter and summer season, they determined that the manufactured home produced an overall savings of 55%.

These homes are incredibly green as well. Stocked with low-flow faucets, high-efficiency heat pumps, and Energy Star appliances, manufactured homes demonstrate the motto of waste not, want not.

Low maintenance costs, too.

The savings continue when it comes to maintenance of a manufactured home. Now, all homes require some weekend fixes and property upgrades. It’s critical to take steps to keep your new home level, sealed and dry. But when you do, it pays off. Costs for upkeep just don’t keep up with the cost to keep up a traditional site-built home.

Part of this is because many of the home’s elements are covered by a warranty. Typically, manufactured homes come with a one-year warranty for construction and separate warranties for windows, doors, siding, faucets, and appliances, to mention a few.
